Arsenal Target Second Position!

Arsene Wenger has fading champions Manchester City in his sights as Arsenal target second place.

The Gunners boss concedes leaders Chelsea are too far away to be caught but believes the runners-up spot is up for grabs.

Sunday’s 2-0 win against Everton coupled with City’s 2-1 defeat at Liverpool means there is now just a four-point gap between the two clubs.

And Wenger has urged his players to turn the screw by beating struggling QPR tomorrow night.
He said: “At the moment we are nowhere near to winning the Premier League or even being close.

“We are too far from Chelsea to say that we are in the title race.

“But the battle for the Champions League places is very tight because Manchester City are only four points ahead of us and there are plenty of people behind us chasing.

“Manchester United are only one point behind us and Liverpool three. They will say that it is realistic to catch us.

“So mathematically of course it is possible for us to catch City.

“At the moment the fight for the top four is more interesting than the race for the title but things change quickly in the last two months of the season.

“You never know what can happen and why should City give up on the title because they did it three years ago when they came back from eight points behind?

“Once you are in March the acceleration is there for the final sprint and what you have to do is not look too much at the other teams and focus on your own results.

“Everything now comes down to consistency and mental strength and that will certainly be needed on Wednesday night.”

While Arsenal have taken 18 points from their last seven Premier League games, City have taken just nine.
