Ljajic avoids ban over goal celebration

The Serbian forward was given a warning over his provocative behaviour after scoring against Feyenoord but escaped further punishment

Adem Ljajic has escaped with a warning after being deemed to have provoked home supporters during Roma’s Europa League win at Feyenoord.

The Giallorossi won the tempestuous contest at De Kuip, which saw a lengthy halt in play during the second half after the Dutch fans had thrown objects onto the pitch after Mitchell te Vrede's red card.

After netting the opening goal of the 2-1 victory, Ljajic appeared to make a point of celebrating directly in front of the section of the crowd which has caused such consternation, leading Uefa to discuss his behaviour at a disciplinary hearing on Wednesday.

But the Serbian forward has avoided significant punishment, with the Uefa Ethics and Disciplinary Board (CEDB) deciding that a warning would suffice.

Roma were handed a €10,000 for the late arrival of their players for kick-off in the fixture, but decisions regarding the home support's behaviour, who have been charged with racism after an inflatable banana was thrown onto the pitch in the first half, will not be made until the CEDB reconvene on March 19.

The crowd disturbances at another Europa League fixture have been reviewed though, with Dynamo Kiev being ordered to close a specific section of their home ground following several incidents at the round of 32 second leg clash with Guingamp.

Several fans entered the field of play while others lit and threw fireworks, leading to the part-closure for the second leg of their round of 16 fixture against Everton on March 19.
